It is with deep regret to inform everyone that TMPA will be shutting down the lake. Starting Sept 26, will only be open on Fri, Sat, and Sun. Nov1 to March1 will be completely closed down for the winter months, and suppose to reopen March1, weekends only. What really bothers me is that these power plants come in our backyard, use Imminent Domain to take peoples land and sell the idea to the public that they will be granted lake access as a public relations stunt, for a fee. This is all Do to mismanagement they layoff lots of people and are now limiting access to the lake, does this sound like community involvement. What do you say, post here and make complaints to TMPA, there number is 979-776-8866 or 979-823-0742

Let's just say im there a lot, and don't want this to happen. I know a lot of employees that work there. Call the numbers if you doubt me, the number you posted was the lake ranger office, they will fill you in. If they cared about the community they would at least put in a drop box system, to allow everyone to continue to enjoy the park.

I'm sure you don't. But to come on a public forum touting something as gospel without a link to a published story won't fly here.

That is a coal-fired plant. Unfortunately, coal-fired plants are either being re-tooled for Powder River Basin coal, used as peakers or being shut down, pending further challenges to EPA.

Sounds like the TMPA is doing this to cut expenses? Seems logical given the current operating environment for coal-fired plants.

I hate to see folks lose jobs. I hate to see sportsmen lose resources. Unfortunately, if those resources are not sustainable and fairly self-sufficient, expenses to maintain them must be cut.

Listen here, I an trying to give everyone a heads up, so we can possible do something about it you, moron. They are EPA compliant, Scrubbers and all. Apparently you have never been in the know and were not ever considered one of the cool kids, I gave you the number, to fill a complaint. I rarely post do to naive, and special individuals like yourself. I will say it again they meet all EPA requirements, one of a few plants that did meet your presidents requirements.

Apruitt,

I didn't research your plant. They're EPA compliant. Got it. Was the plant, when built, configured to run PRBC? If not, at what cost was it brought into compliance?

Now listen here. That second post of yours was actually funny as hades. You took all my words and put 'em back in my face. Kinda made me feel like Ol' Johnny Ringold after his pistol showmanship while staring down Doc twirling his "little silver cup". Good retort, sir.

I figured you would think I was one of Obie's boys, since they're the dufus's trying to drive ALL coal-fired plants out of business. To the contrary, I'm on your side when it comes to this issue.

But leaking information about "impending" changes to generate phone calls of disdain simply is not what the TFF is about.

So come back with something concrete, in writing, that explains what's about to happen. How the heck is anyone supposed to speak intelligently to the folks on the other end of those phone numbers you listed, without knowing precisely what it is they're complaining about?

I'm a pretty understanding man. I realize this is an issue near and dear to your heart. I replied to your OP, sincerely. You replied to mine in a confrontational manner. You'll catch a lot more flies with honey in the future.

Finally, you don't know me from Adam nor I, you. What brain cells I have left are employed managing the risk on energy and power companies just like yours. Which I've been doing since 1984. I might know a bit about "your" industry.

Now come on back with something of substance that we can get behind to help keep GC open 6 days/week, please.

Also, I'd like to apologize to you. You took my reply as an attack and it was not intended as such, though I can see how you would take it that way. I'm not trying to derail your effort. In fact, I could become one of your strongest advocates, fwiw.

Apology excepted, now here are the facts. The game warden leaked it six weeks ago, management stressed this was not true, because the lake was mostly self sustained. This.week staff was put on notice with info, that I previously provided. The two GB staff members, have been provided documentation to these facts and one has already got thier layoff notice this week. Website is.seldom updated, but employees have been told they can tell thier customers. Alot of other people have been layed off at the plant, although this is sad, as a fisherman the lakes is what concerns me. I think it is quiet short sided on managements part. If you wait to hear about it on some news reel, it most likely would be to late, call the lake tomorrow. 936-873-2424

Are they closing the lake or are they shutting the plant down?

Closing the lake, plant will remain open, and lake part time for now, but there is a push to close it altogether.

Fouz, I would trust what Apruitt has to say. I heard the very same thing today from a source at the plant. I would assume there will be a public outcry as soon as this information hits the College Station news.

You have to wonder why, if finances were a concern, Gibbons has run a staffed check-in station since day one. Why a fee box wasn't considered as an alternative to shutting the door is beyond me, but the loss of access to this lake is going to affect a lot of people.

I was told recently that the lake never paid for its up keep, until they started allowing skiing, jet skis, etc, but that now it is self sustained and has been since those changes. Make me wonder if there is another reason besides loss of revenue caused by the lake activities.
