I like to catch smallies on broken bow. fish all the main lake points just north of the damn on both sides with green pumkin tubes, drop shots, shakey heads and craw colored cranks. Spooks work well in the morning as well.
good luck

I am going the 13th - 17th, so you guys let me know how you did. Fishing the lake in the morning (on water by 5:30)and fly fishing the river in the afternoon is my usual routine. I have had luck with medium diving cranks (shad or crawfish colored) fairly early in the morning casting to rocks on both sides of main lake points, then move out to deeper water to fish soft plastics. Catch most of the fish before 8am up there in summertime. You can go to a smaller crank and catch a lot of 1lb spots if you want quantity. Slow rolling 3 inch smoke colored grubs on 3/8 oz jig heads takes patience, but can be effective up there if nothing else works later in the day. Very clear water, usually use 10lb floro leaders on braid. The lake is very easy to fish in April and early May, much tougher in June.

Broken Bow was tuff when we went up there a few weeks ago...I zeroed and my buddy caught two fish using a White Flukes donkey rigged. His son lost a good fish at the boat, and he was using a watermelon/Red Magic zoom worm on a shakey head...
Good Luck.

Headed to Fork tomorrow with my son, then headed to Beaver's Bend this Friday with the whole family. NICE Father's Day week!! Additional tips for Beaver's Bend would be appreciated. Never caught a smallie in my life. I'm sure I'll be as lousy at that as I am with largemouths.

We went for a week last year and fished the lake...lets put it this way, I'm NOT bringing the boat this weekend. We had a much better time trout fishing the river and it was much cooler. That lake is great at times and "summer" isn't one of those times, in my opinion. I hope you and the family have a great time this weekend!

For a non-fly fisherman, small in-line spinners and tiny red devil spoons work well for trout in the deep/weedy parts of the river, particularly around the river area by the theater area/main beavers bend office.
For smallmouth in brokenbow, I would fish crawfish jigs around boulders and cover like trees. They are mainly an ambush predator and they LOVE crawfish. You could also try around deep weedbeds.

I wouldn't count on smallies. They have been scarce the last couple of years. Baby chugbugs early and a c-rig or a 300 series bandit after the sun gets up.

Try some night fishing. Fish have been biting good after dark the last few weekends. Biffle heads with plastics on points is a good place to start

A Buddy and I went last Saturday. Fished from 5 'til midnight. Caught about 20 or so with the biggest being a 6 lb 4 oz. Only caught 2 smallmouth. We fished main lake humps and points from midlake down to the dam with c'rig brush hogs and craws. Also caught a few on a finesse jig. The kentuckies are schooling early and late around the Sand Springs Bend area. The 6 pounder was a surprise to say the least. I grew up on BBow and big bass are the exception there.

Thanks Mike for the report, debating if its worth running north from the marina each morning to get into the water that has some color, but sounds like you guys did ok in the clear stuff.

Mudcat, thanks for the tip on schooling fish up north, we got into them pretty good on Sunday morning for about 90 minutes - surprised they stayed up that long
