Wanting to run out to the dam on Saturday or Sunday, hoping to catch a striper. Got some secret weapons I have just tied that I want to test out.

Anyone had any luck recently? Any fly suggestions?

go early- stripers and magnum sand bass hold up close to the dam. The striper bite lasts till around nine am, but the magnums will keep going till noon

I hooked into 5 "magnums" in 15 minutes in late December after a worthless day spent trout fishing. I wish I had spent the entire day under the dam!

Good luck!

I fished the dam a couple of weeks ago. If you have a kayak, paddle over to the far left side if you are facing the dam. Park the yak and wade as far forward on the rocks as you can. Cast straight out with a white wooly bugger or anything that could be a white minnow pattern. Let the fly sink deep then dance it back with quick 6" strips pausing a few seconds between strips. If it is over cast and windy, the action will go all day. Whites, stripers, and drum. There are actually smallmouth down the ripples that will be behind you if you are on the left side facing the dam. They take marabou muddlers. They hang out in the rocks and jump out and attack the muddlers.

Can you put in at the Tx 16 bridge and do up to the Dam?? Are they letting enough water out of the lake to have decent flotation?

I could not get up there last Friday in a canoe loaded with camping gear. The flow rate has been between 25 and 50 cfs.
The fishing was good downstream though. We need rain in the watershed to get the lake level up so they can release more water. The river needs a good flushing out.

Here's a hot off the press report from the middle of the afternoon on a hot, windy West Texas day.

Yup, it's worth it. Spent the afternoon catching smallies in the riffles that Mateo mentioned. Stephen Woodcock from Backwoods suggested fishing small yellow panfish poppers across and down the current. Oh boy, was he right!

Been intending to get out there for a day of fishing...but life hasn't been kind to me over the past couple of weeks...I'll get out there sometime this summer. Sigh.

Did you "pop" them or just float or strip them?

Easy 4" strips, the head of the popper was pretty small in diameter and was flat so there really wasn't much popping going on.
