I've got a small club tourney on lake Tyler next weekend and was just looking for a little advice. I've been on the lake a grand total of once and that was several years ago.
We are launching from concession bay. How safe is the lake to run? Are there trees and stumps to worry about when running areas of the lake? Also for the guys who fish the lake what types of weights are being caught right now, just wondering what I need to try and plan to bring to the scales. Also how's the fishing? Is it slow or are people catching some good numbers. I also see from google earth that there are basically two lakes there. Since me and my dad haven't really fished it I'm sure we will just stay on one side or the other. Is there one side that seems to produce better than the other. I noticed lake Tyler seems to have a tone of boat houses and Tyler east seems to have a more natural bank line.
I'm just trying to find any help available and make sure we stay safe on the lake. Any hazards or running issues I might need to worry about would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any help,

As far as stumps go you do not have much to worry about but recreational boats are plentiful. There are a few shallow spots but for the most part they are marked and just paying attention will keep you out of harms way. As is the case in most lakes the far ends of the creeks do have a few stumps and are shallow as well. Most of your fishing now is typical summer time patterns offshore fishing ledges, humps, points, and ridges near deeper water but concentrate on the 10-20ft range. Carolina rigs, Tx rigs, Crankbaits, and Jigs are your best choices.

Thanks Tom I appreciate the info. Yeah I figured the rec boats would be a plenty with the weather the way it is, lol.
Also does anyone know how the lake level is?
Thanks again for any info.

Like Tome said its a pretty easy lake to run around on. There will be a lot of ski boat traffic any weekend day so watch out because they dont always pay attention. I caught several nice bass out there on Friday. I concentrated on main lake humps in the 10 to 15 ft range. Best bait for me was a black blue football jig with a ragetail craw trailer. I wouldnt say either lake was better than the other I caught about the same on both. Good luck and hope this helps!!

Big sacks have been weighed in at the last two JC Outdoors tournaments, 20# last week and 18# the week before. However, the guys weighing in these fish in are some of the best sticks on Tyler. The fishing can be really good but even some of the better anglers on Tyler are only catching 10-12 pounds a day.
If you find sandbass the largemouth are probably close by. Check your drag because the fish are really strong right now. Good Luck
