I am tired of not getting any bites, so time for an old dog to learn some new tricks. I need and honest answer from a fisherman, can you believe that? I know it's funny, but the pain has become to much for me to bare. I want to learn to drop shot, but I need some help. I have been told to use a spincast setup with braided line and a leader of Fluorocarbon. So what knot is best to use when, doing this? I know one that will not break, but really what do you expert drop shot fisherman use? Any help would be appreciated for this old school fisherman. Thank you in advance for your responses.

i have a spinning rod let up for it but a lot of times i like using a medium light 7' casting rod with 10lb floro all the way. palomar knot and threat the tag end through the eye of the hook again and use the dropshot weights with the line clips. my favorite lures to use are 4" watermelon red rattlesnake by grande bass and also the zoom trick worms in green pumpkin. Usually my go to for suspended and finicky bass
Good luck!

Good luck! +1 But I used a medium action baitcaster. I like robowors and anything jackall makes in a finese/drop shot plastic.

A shaky head is another good technique to pick up if you're looking for more bites from finicky fish. I use pretty much the same baits I use on a drop shot.

Mainly, fishing Lake Fork. Guess I should, have thrown Shakey Head some, but what I have been told there is something to the worm falling straight down next to the trees and it's easier with a spinning reel. I do see however, how I could rig the same thing on a Finesse Rod and baitcaster, just didn't know if it would be as effective.

It's hard for this old Ag to agree with a Razorback, but he's exactly right! I get bored fast with a drop shot and the shakey head works year round. You can use spinning or baitcasting.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I use a small swivel on my drop shots because all I get is twisted line in about 2 hours of fishing. I will tie a swivel on my leader with a palamar knot and attach it to the main line with a palamar knot. I drop down about 8 inches and put a 2.0 wide gap Gama. hook on with a palamar knot. On the end I tie a over hand knot to hold the weight on. I like the cylinder weights because they don't roll and twist like a ball weight. My bait of choice is a Capitan Grumpy's Cat tail which is a custom bait he pours or one of his 5 inch sinkos.
