I keep losing crankbaits. I will go to cast and they fly off the line. The line looks like the knot just came undone. I use the improved clinch knot. I don't have this problem with any other lure... just my crankbaits. Is there a better knot for crankbaits? What am I doing wrong?

I have never had that happen to me. The only knot I use on cranks is a Palomar, but everyone has their preference.

Well for starters leave your tag end a lil long don't cut it off right next to the not. Next make sure your not is cinched down and you moisten the not well. Start with that

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

sounds like you need to learn to tie a knot LOL. any particular brand of CB, are the split rings good? is the line curled on the end like the knot slipped or line broke. Have you trolled over to get your crankbaits where they land to see if any line was left on the splitring?

Best and easiest knot

I've used this knot for 30 years with zero knot breaks. So uncomplicated a kid can tie it. Skip all the fancy knots and use one that never lets you down.

Feed the line through the eyelet, make a circle with the tag end, grab the line on the other side and wrap it 5 times. Wet it and pull the tag end until its cinched up.

This is not ment to be a dig against anybody, but why is it that there are so many equipment failures going on out there? I just dont understand it. I have fished very hard for a very long time and I have few equipment failures and the ones I do have are a result of stupidity and clearly are my fault.

I cannot imagine why there would be so many line breaks, knot failures and broken rods going on out there unless inexsperience and carelessness is rampid and playing apart in the equasion. Likewise I cannot see why some would find it so hard to believe that there are acctually some people out there that dont have these issues.

RTT if you are using flouro then like said above use the palomar, it is fast, strong and easy to tie. Whatever you do, do not use speed clips or any other device between your line and the split ring on your lure, I dont recomend using snap swivels either. It may take you a little longer to re-tie but sooner or later the convienance will come back and bit you on the arse.

first off, tie a polomar knot. now, make sure that when you tie your knot, your line doesnt get caught up in the eye ring spaces

have you tried the trilene knot? i use the trilene knot 95 percent of the time (confidence), on occasion a palomar knot.

Make sure your line is not weak... make a regular knot in your line.... and then pull it real hard. If your line is weak it will break... flourocarbon gets weak within a couple months. Strip off a few yards till you find where its not weak anymore... hope it helps...

I with you on this one. I don't have the line breakage and knot failures that I see posted so often and i have been fishing for a long long time.
