I had an awesome day yesterday. I caught only a fee sandies in the am, i couldnt find the schoolin but i ended up slabbin & boated bout 10ish. By noon the sun really came out so it was time for a nap. So i tied up & anchored under I-30 & took a nap. After my nap i bellied up to Applebees for lunch then headed back out. I tried to slab @ the rockpile with no luck. RapTrap showd up & within 5 min him & his girl boated 2 huge hybrids on live bait. So off to get me some shad. I returned & it was still slow for me for some reason. I like to think that my shad were too big... But my first hybrid went over 6 lbs 25"!!! I ended up catchin 6 or so. Thanks to RapTrap for the advice to switch to shad!!! Doug was out there as well tearin them up too!!! It was Good to meet some of the members out there. I hope to fish with y'all again!!!

This post is great on so many levels! Glad you finally got the big fish Al. Rap is our resident live bait hypocri..... I mean, expert. Any questions you have about shad, he's your man!

This post is great on so many levels! Glad you finally got the big fish Al. Rap is our resident live bait hypocri..... I mean, expert. Any questions you have about shad, he's your man! unfortunately Jackson is right and you can say it...HYPOCRITE. Believe me I have been taking untold amounts of carp off all my family members who listened to me bad mouth live bait fishing for so long...but I am hooked. The fishing has been so good that I have been scared to post reports in fear of jinxing it. But let me put it this way...until two days ago I had 10 rod/reel combos on my boat and 8 tackle trays. 7 of the combos were set up with Bass Rigs and 6 of tackle trays had bass lures in them....NOW I have 5 live bait rigs, 1 slab rig, 1 spoon rig, 1 sassy shad rig and 1 bass rig. The only bass tackle left on my boat is a couple crankbaits and a bag of worms and those will probably rot before they get used!! Life on the LIGHT SIDE for me is OVER!!

What type and size hooks are you guys using for live baits?

I have been using 6/0 Mustad Big Gun Live Bait hooks. On the recommendation of several people here I switched over to Circle Hooks today in attempt to stop the gut hooking I have been doing.
I caught 3 hybrids today on circle hooks and every one of them was gut hooked and BAD. On top of that I missed three more the most misses I have had in a while...so no more circle hooks for me!!

The wife and I was there and we caught a few slabling but not like Mike and his wife and Doug. I have everything to live bait fish in the boat and was wishing I had stopped to catch some shad. The fish were not there today at least for me.
