Probably getting a Hero 2 for fathers day/birthday... Just wondering which package everyone thinks is the best all around for using on a boat? Also has anyone bought the separate LCD screen to view videos and pics? Anymore recomendations on any ”must have” extras? Thanks for the input!

Motorsports Version it has the mounts you will need. Get the LCD screen (you can use the display as the new menu). Also get the extra battery, and the wifi/remote acc. just released this week I think. Got a $4 lens cover on EBay. Hope this helps..watch youtube for good info as well.

Is the LCD screen waterproof too... Or have a waterproof housing to use when attached to the camera?

They are amazing! The quality of video from that small of a devise is hard to believe. We borrowed one from a friend to video our Falcon trip this spring to test new products and it worked great. I just my bought my own last week.

I would definitely recommend the LCD display just to help set up the shot, otherwise you are shooting blind. It comes with waterproof covers.

We went with the Outdoor version, but we also got the tripod connector. I've heard of guys mounting it to the windshield or RAM mounted fish finder. But we rigged a tripod to get a higher viewing angle.

Power and SD storage are the other issues to consider. We figured out a power source from the cigarette lighter for continuous power. I think a USB port from the radio might also work. Two 32G SD cards should last about 10 hours.
After that is video downloading and editing. I have a MAC and it went pretty easy, I've heard that PCs are testy.

To check out the quality see our products page at http://www.mesubait.com/Products.php

I hope this helped and get ready for the bloobers, you wont believe how many stupid things you do or say.

They've got some great accessories.

How is the quality of the pictures. I know it says 11mp but I have had cameras with lower mp and they seem to take better pics than my higher quality ones.

It does a solid job with still pics if you understand it's limits. It's a fish eye lens, so it will take wide angle shots, and obviously won't compete with DSLRs, but produces a quality image. It's terrible in low light situations compared to most point and shoots, but that's not really what it's designed for.

It was made to shoot HD video / pics in rough environments, take a beating and let you still extract your files from the camera.

One bit of advice it to let it "acclimate" to the outside temp before you take it out for the day on the water. If you have it open in your truck's AC and seal it in there, it will fog up like a champ inside the housing once the sun hits it (and vice versa in cold weather). I usually wrap it in a small towel (or even a sock....some guys use plastic bags, but I think that's overkill) to keep as much moisture out of the case as possible, let it sit on the deck for a few minutes at the ramp, and then close it up. It's really helped with the fog (this is for the waterproof housing only, as the vented housing obviously lets air temp equalize).

Nothing will bring you down like thinking you got an awesome action sequence on film and then trying to rewatch it through a grey haze....

I have two of the motorsports edition. Couple accessories to consider is the roll bar mount, the battery bacpac, and a go pole for underwater shots and what not. I love mine they have worked great. Oh yeah get the cig lighter charger. On the still pics, I don't use it much for that you have to be real still cause they will blur a little on ya due to the delay in shutter.

These work well to solve this issue.
