Do you guys usually fish right on top of the hump, where it starts dropping off, or the bottom of the drop off? Also, does the time of the day and time of the year matter?

Where ever the fish are... if there arent any fish on it, then no reason to fish it.

You never know where they will be. Start up wind and drift over it using your TM. Thats the best way to find them. Or if its a deep hump, drive the boat and use you Graf.

Yes time of day makes a difference. You have to be on the water alot to find out when they are there. Its sometimes a seasonal thing. Its alot of trial and error. And as far as fishing humps, you have to move around to see where they are. Sometimes their on the top and other times they will be at the bottom of a hump, or suspended close to a hump and not on it.

The way I fish a hump is to throw a buoy out right on top of the hump. Then I start circling my buoy going deeper thill I have checked the hump from the top till it merges with the surrounding bottom. Like was said above they can be anywhere on the hump. I'm sure time of the day makes a differance but if there is a rule of thumb as to where they will be at a certain time, I don't know what it is. Johnny

I prefer to fish from the side of a hump (downwind) and work a slab from the top to bottom as I reel it in. This is easy if you can keep your boat still. This way you will cover more depths with less casts. You can then pattern them if they are feeding. If you prefer, find them this way and then vertical slab them when you find your depth they are holding at. I always cast and slab because i like to work more water. Find em with your electronics and them slab the heck out of them till you find exactly where they are.
Time of year and time of day have a lot to do with this. More so the time of year with the temperature variances. Do not let a thermocline fool you either. Late summer you will see them near one side or the other of mid lake humps, etc. they look like giant bait balls on your graph if you do not know what your looking for.

Fish where the fish are. You have to learn to use the electronics on the boat.

I agree with all above who said sometimes they are on top, sometimes they are at the edge, and sometimes they are on the slope. It varies from day to day. I won't start fishing until I use graph to find out where they are.
If the hump or point is small enough, like Bassthumb, I prefer to get on the side and cast over the hump and work the lure up the far side, across the top and back down the near side. Unlike Bassthumb, I prefer getting upwind of the fish so I can cast downwind to them. I can make longer casts and don't get backlashes casting downwind. If the hump is broad and fish are on the down wind edge, I'll park on top of hump and cast down slope and down wind. But, if fish are on the up wind edge or slope I'll park out in the deep water so I can cast down wind - casting to top of hump and working lure down slope.

All good words of advice I will throw my. 02 in the ring. I like to sit off the edge of the hump cast on top and then lift and drop till I hit the drop off and let it fall to the bottom once I have pinpointed the school in one specific area I will tie on a 1/2 oz. rooster tail and cast beyond them and lift until the spinner starts to vibrate then I let it free fall back this technique is my favorite way to catch them.
