 Matagorda surf conditions...?

I'm headed down to Matagorda this coming Friday and was wondering how the surf conditions are. Is the beach covered in grass? Has anyone been catching any fish out of the surf? We'll be spending about 5 days down there so hopefully we can get into some fish. This will be my first time going, it'll be a learing experience I'm sure!! Thank you for any help you could give me
