I have a x-17 xpress with a 90hp on it. I need an anchor for it how heavy should I go? Just Incase you don't know, xpress is a aluminum boat, so not as heavy as fiberglass.

You know I would say the heavier the better, the ones that can grab the bottom hold the boat better but the good people on the forums will always point you the right way.

It's not so much about the weight of the anchor. The design is much more critical. Stay away from those mushroom or river style anchors. They will only cause you lots of frustration and sore arms from pulling and having to reset. A box anchor is the way to go. A 12" or 14" would be more than sufficient for your size of boat. They weigh about 15 to 20 lbs.

I would say a 15 lb anchor would be more than sufficient You need about 8 feet of chain tied to the anchor then tie your rope to that. the more rope you let out, the better the hold. In heavy weather, 2 anchors with lots of rope out will hold you in one place. Spread them out as far as possible, and pull them tight to center your boat over one spot.

I've lost so many anchors I now resort to making my own.
Bleach bottle and kwik create works pretty good.
Just one more cast!

Bleach bottle and kwik create works pretty good. I prefer gallon milk jugs with about 30 long nails sticking of of the sides to make it look like an old mine.
