Wow. That is crazy. Doesn't take a whole lot of tow vehicle and boat to to be above 10,000#.

Wow, that sounds awful silly to make bass fisherman do this.

I dont really see what the wraps on his boat and truck had to do with it, other then the attention.

However, this isnt a new rule, hot shot drivers have to follow DOT Reg's and most of those guy are running 3/4 ton and 1 ton vehicles.

It's unfortunate he got popped though.

DOT is on the prowl this month.

Yep, its the CVSA sting month...DOT is pulling everyone in and having the mechanics go through the entire check list. smile

K Pink has some incorrect stuff in his blog... your not subject to USDOT or FMCSA regulations if you dont leave Texas unless your vehicle weighs 26,001# or more.. at which time you are required to have a TXDOT number. No USDOT, TXDOT, or FMCSA regulations apply people under 26,001# that do not cross state lines for interstate commerce. The way his article makes it sound, I'd be required to run a log book to travel to Fork... thats just not the way it is.

To clarify, here is the difference:

Intrastate commerce (within your state) - you are deemed a commercial vehicle if your GVWR is over 26,000

Interstate commerce (anytime you cross a state line) - you are deemed a commercial vehicle if your GVWR is over 10,000.

Also......

Better check with your insurance carrier as many insurance agencies will require you to have a "commercial auto policy" if you wrap your vehicle. This can get very expensive!

Isnt the mystery lake in Wisc. and dont they have a rule for tournaments that when you have 5 in the boat you cant cull. Looks like to me the DOT will be busy during this tournament stopping all the guys going to and coming from the state.

you have to get a separate culling permit so that you are allowed to do so

So if you do not claim anything on your IRS returns you are not subject to this. Am I correct?
