It sounds like it was double digits for sure. I'd make up some numbers and have Lake Fork Taxidermy mount it for you. You certainly earned it.

If you wanna kill bear you gotta be loaded for bear... when frog fishin in vegetation you gotta have braid and a super line hook... I have had 6-7 pounder straighten a non super line 6/0 hook during the hook set..fish is heading down and rod is heading up, all very fast... its a lot of force/pressure... go back and get um!

Usually when you set the hook on catfish they dont make that real quick powerful run. But you never know.

Well you wanted my opinion...Why in the world would you spend good money on a reel with a good drag system and then not use what you paid for? Don't lock the drag on 17 lb line. Set it correctly and you'd of had a good chance to catch the fish instead of wondering what it was.

Good point, I'm not a tourney fisherman, not a hawg hunter, just like to go and have fun and most everything I catch is 4lbs or smaller, never had an issue before.

I would say catfish... I had one blow up on a spook at Fork I would have sworn it was a big bass but NOT...

I'm going with a catfish, and yes a catfish can and will hit harder then some largemouth. A blue cat will almost always hit harder than a largemouth. They tend to inhale baits and run. Ive never locked a drag down.
