Well its time for the old 9wt cortland to be given back after a year of borrowing from my dad to see if I really liked slingin bugs in the salt. I have to admit I really enjoyed it in the surf and jetties sooo I'm in the market for a new rod and reel. I really like the tfo ticrx 8wt and the bvk although wasn't too impressed with the fighting butt on the 8wt bvk. Also like the idea of that 2handed extension for the ticrx. This rod will be paired with a colton reel just lookin for a few bits of advice to sway me. I mostly will be using this setup for surf, jetty, flats and bass when the winds too much for my 5. Thanks.

If you like the action of the TFO BVK fly rods, check out the Axiom series. I find the action very similar and the rod much "beefer".
I have not cast the Axiom 9 wt but the 6 wt is a cannon.
Good reports on the 2 handed extentions but no experience.

N.E. Texas 2 acre and 1/4 acre ponds.

Tough choice. Since you mostly fish the surf and jetties I would recommend a 9wt TiCr X, but the two handed conversion kit doesn't fit that particular rod. The BVK is a great rod but doesn't have the lifting power of the TiCr X, when you are trying to get a 20lb jack over sand bars or through the wade gut you will wish you had more power. Another good choice is the Mini Mag 300g-400g, lifting power will never be an issue and it can cast a whole lot of line in very few back casts if you hit your hauls right, which is a plus when casting to cruising fish in the surf or jetties.

Going with the bigger rod sucks for the smaller fish, but when you hook into a big one you'll be glad you went big on the stick. However, another good thing about the Mini Mag is it is incredibly sensitive for it's size and power.

8-10 Mini Mag is the way to go.
Like Scout said you can fish for the smallest to the biggest with it and get the same action. It is one tough rod.

I just purchased a Sage Flight 8wtwith a Ross CLA 4! Nice rig and use it for both fresh and salt.

I like both the bvk and the axiom, in 8wt i like the axiom better, but for light weight i take the bvk. for my 9wt i have a custom made Xi3 that i can not beat. if your budget is not very big, i would look into the axiom
