i recently got a slip out at LL and i am now in the process of baiting it. First timer.. How deep do you place the brush and do you tie them all off? Where do you place the brush.. sides or middle? what are some things that i should avoid? any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would drop some of the brush straight down to the bottom, and I would hang some of it half-way down with heavy duty cables. Doesnt matter where in the slip u put it. We prefer to use bamboo because it lasts the longest.

also, try throwing out some range cubes. Itll atract the baitfish. Do this if you want Catfish. Otherwise it's terrible for Crappie fishing.

Some of the brushpiles I've fished lately have been baited with crappie repellant...dang stuff works good too....try it, you won't like it...I'm pretty sure Keith did it while I wasn't looking....that is Creamlevel Creek Kennel Keith in case you have any doubts!!!!

I've used sweet horse feed for years and it works for crappie. It also brings bait fish in. Black bass and hybrids are tuff on crappie not catfish. It's also cheap....$10/50 lb.

I bait slips every year and have about 25 baited right now. Some advice I can give: like mcKinneycrappiecather said, put some on the bottom and some half way. I also have some just under the surface. You never know where the crappie will be so try to cover all depths. I use Christmas trees only because they are super easy to get once Christmas is over. Yes bamboo will last much longer, but I just go the Christmas tree route. I tend to have better luck with my piles that are in the shade. It gets HOT in the summer, so I find "most" of my crappie on the shaded piles. Dont take the marina's dock poles for granted. What I mean is, those poles sticking up in the air extend all the way to the bottom, So jig the whole way down. I have caught some of my biggest crappie on those poles. I dont know what kind of structure you are sinking but, make sure you tie enough weight to it to sink. Then I just use small rope from home depot to tie it. If you get a jig hung on your brushpile, don't try to pull the brushpile out of the water to retrieve said jig. Dont ask... If you sink it, they will come. No need to throw out any kind of feed or chum, but to each his own. ask your neighbors if they mind you tieing off brush in their slip. That way you have a lot more places to fish. This is what has worked for me over the years, hope it helps.
You cant teach greatness.

I have a slip on LL and sank about 5 Christmas Trees last winter. Slip sits in about 17 ft
Spring fishing was average and fishing now is great if you want to catch 30 short crappie in the evening.
Will the keepers move in, are they there and i'm just not catching them? Or when you see this its just going to remain dinks?
PB Blue Cat = 36 lbs - Texoma PB Black Bass = 9.9 lbs - Ray Hubbard PB Striper = 19 Lbs - Beaver Lake AR I'm thankful for all the things i have, and all the things i don't. I have dreams that will come true and i have some that won't.
