I am headed to South Padre next week for a vacation and some kayak fishing in the bay. We go every summer and get a guide but this year we have found some spots and are just going to kayak. With our guide we have always used fresh dead mullet for reds but I was curious if anyone knew of good places to throw a cast net to find them. We plan on using shrimp as well as plastics and spoons but thought fresh mullet might be a nice change. Thanks for your help!

wade around in the gulf surf..you will be able to see the mullet
swimming around you...throw your cast net on them and you should get all you need for bait.

Do yall cut up mullet in chunks or do you throw em in hole? I'll be heading down there the 16th as well.

I use the smaller mullet about 5"-6" hole hook through lips.
I run the hook through the lips..then secure the hook with a small round plastic punch out.
plastic punch out is ===hole punch out plastic butter tub lid..
slide little round disc over hook barb after hook through lips
--keeps mullet from flying off hook when you cast..
