Potentially looking to upgrade on electronics. Do you spend the money on a larger screen but only get DI or go smaller screen and get both?

To me Side Image is the only reason to upgrade.
Traditional Sonar to down imaging isn't a reason to upgrade in my opinion.

Side imaging is more useful than down so get both. Down you already have a 2d with side you can atleast see water you haven't been able to see in the past.

If you're a structure fisherman than SI is the way to go. I would save your money until you can afford at least a HDS 7 (preferably 8) or the 900 series HB. I hear there are people that can effectively use SI on smaller screens but I think they're in the minority. So unless you have great eyes get SI with a larger screen, you won't be disappointed.
And I agree that down scan is not worth upgrading for. I use it by far the least of my 3 sonars.

SI is alot more useful than DI, and alot easier to read on a bigger screen, However it is expensive. I'd just save up till you can get an HDS/LSS or a humminbird with SI. It will be worth it.

Rarely use Down Imaging. It's good fora pretty picture once you found the picture with SI. In fact I would take 2d sonar over Down Imaging all day long for graphing fish.
