I'm going down to Galveston Texas for vacation and I'm going to fish of piers. I'm trying to go big, such as predatory fish. I have plent of gear but I want to know if there is anything I need to add. I also would like to know some of the best baits. Please help me out cause this will be my first trip to texas.

If you like to have some fun, try 20lb test line with 60lb leader with a 4.0-5.0 hook. Ive hooked on 30+lb reds with that setup. Takes a while, but its fun when you land them.

What are some of the baits that work the best, and where you could find them/buy them.

If you are fishing for sharks throw fresh cut mullet or stingray. Use a wire leaders to prevent cutoffs. They have been catching blacktips in the surf.

Do you know what size of sharks are being caught and what baits work for reds. Also, should I fish the bottom or use pole floats?

What is the best depth for fishing reds, do you want to put it on the bottom or float it at middle depth?

Read this. There is a great explanation of line, rigging and baits.

Is there any other fish that you are able to catch from the piers that would give an angler a battle?
