good article. gave me a good idea to use darker weight so fish don't hit it. only thing I like to do differently (ala Cody Malone) is light braid leader and rig worm normal to be more weedless.

Yes, I fish Amistad quite often, and I here this works well there, but I cant figure it out! What line, Rod, Hook, soft plastic, do you use? How do you get it through the matted grass.

very nice, do you think harder to feel the bite because hook is on swivel and not attached to line? don't you think this swivel setup would be best for all drop shot use, not just grass?

The spinshot hook pictured above is an awesome hook. I like the action it gives the bait. I also like that it prevents line twist. It also allows the user of any knot you would like which is useful in preventing line burn on light fluro. However the one downside of those hooks is that they are a bit pricy. I usually see the 4 packs for about $4. At a dollar a hook that is more than I usually care to spend.

very nice, do you think harder to feel the bite because hook is on swivel and not attached to line? don't you think this swivel setup would be best for all drop shot use, not just grass? I was the product tester for Carlos and River A Tackle on this design. The Owner Rig'N hook is by far the best hook I have ever used for drop shotting. That hook coupled with his wire line tie allows the bait to have a more natural presentation. I assure you that you will feel the bite and will not lose any sensitivity with the hook not being directly tied to the main line. I am so confident Rob...that I will send you a couple of my own supply. I am not sponsored, nor affiliated with River A Tackle in any form or fashion. I met Carlos when I bought a bunch of Duckett Rods and we have been friends ever since. We have shared some of the same ideas and I really like the direction he is heading. I like to support the local guy and Carlos is as honest and trustworthy of a person I have met in my years of fishing. Shawn

@plastic skipper...sorry boss that is not a vmc....that is our own beast...an adaptation of the spinshot with an owner rig n hook....the vmc would fall apart if you tried dropping it in grass...
@roblay...this rig is THE best at dropshot period! Seriously....Shawn beat me to it....He was the product tester for this rig....his feedback was gold. The wire is beefed up and it gives you the confidence to really set the hook and not worrying about the hook not coming through for you....

What's with the emphasis on using such light tackle? I'm not a die hard drop shot fisherman like some of my friends, but I have fished it plenty to know how effective it can be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the drop shot essentially a dead sticking technique (sometimes light line shaking)? As long as you have a heavy enough weight to get the worm down there why would the light line and tackle make any difference?

This is a traditional drop shot rig. Small finesse soft plastics and light line. Both of which can lead to more bites in the right situation. We will work on another article that will deal with drop shooting with bigger tackle (like on lake Amistad, ect...)
