I have a 115 Merc Opti. I was on the water and I was moving at a slow pace while scanning with Side Imaging. I noticed that my outboard dropped RPM from 2000 to 1000. I did not move the throttle. Then by itself it revved up to 2000 again. It did it about 3-4 times. I also tried giving gas when the outboard dropped RPMs and it felt like if the motor didn't have anymore balls. Before this i noticed that I would turn motor on and by itself it would turn off. At the very end I was able to get on plane and get to the boat ramp. Any suggestions???

Sounds more like tune up issues. Plugs and wires and such. Or old bad gas. Usually with a plugged fuel filter you lose the top end. Joe

ON that Optimax their are several things that can cause this. Best to get it to a Merc mechanic. One thing you can check is battery connections and battery voltage. Opti`s are touchy about battery voltage. Fuel filter will normally cause a surging or slight loss of power.
