With pond fishing you'll get more bites with wind gust. It's hard to fly fish on windy days but take some poppers and cast with the gust and they go crazy. I always thought it was because they watch for bugs getting blown off plants or out of the air.

I can confirm that ... went out to a pond behind the house yesterday afternoon, and caught quite a few on the fly. Had to use my slingblade to clear out enough reeds and cattails so I could "somewhat" cast in there and still lots of untangling flies and leader from the tall grasses, but it was definitely worth it! About a dozen decent sized gills and a couple of bass that were smaller than the smallest gill I caught in just under an hour.

Wouldn't this count as a "small" mouth bass?

I couldn't seem to catch a smallie locally, so I had to come all the way to Middle Tennessee just so Tom wouldn't show me up. LOL

Actually been working in Nashville this week, and drove over to Winchester last night to see my Mom, who lives on Tim's Ford Lake. Had a few minutes after supper to fish off the dock and caught this guy. Now I remember why I miss living in TN

I miss fishing on the Tim's Ford as well, my cousin has a place on the lake we used to fish all the time when I lived in N Alabama. Lots of good memories on that place.

I'm thinking of fishing grapevine tomorrow morning, I need a change of scenery. I've never caught a smallie and it would be nice to have a first time story. Hopefully the winds will cooperate, since I'll be fishing out of my sons hobie sport and not my usual outback.
