T_Russ - Sandies (most call them whites in these parts) Lake Livingston and Lake Somerville. Lake Houston is closer and has some whites but harder to come by than the previous two lakes. For catfish, lots of options - Conroe, Livingston, Houston all have excellent cat populations and size. Then there are the rivers - Trinity, San Jacinto, and Brazos mainly come to mind. Also numerous ponds, community lakes and creeks for cats year round and whites in some of those creeks in the winter/early spring.

Hope you will enjoy Houston once you get here. I know moving can be tough.

Regards,
Tom

And you can try Galveston, or Surf Side if you get tired of the fresh water fish.

Lake Houston is a great lake for blues and channel cats, especially those 3-5 lb eating size. food
Like Tom says, Sommerville and Conroe are both great for white bass as well as hybrids and some stripers.
Both are also great for crappie.
Houston has most of those as well, but is dingy most of the time whereas Conroe and Sommerville are clearer.
Also, depending on what part of Houston you're moving to, Fayette County is only an hour west of Katy...bass, cats, and more.
In Houston itself you can catch bass and sunnies in the bayous, as well as gar, catfish, carp, buffalo, bullheads, and on the west side rios as well.

I came from H town to Dallas, and man do I miss fishing the saltwater!...when you go, go early for the best bait, cause they run out fast on the weekend runs. Night time fishing is even better when you don't have to fight the sun, plan a time to fish lighted bridges and causeways.Try the Texas City Dike areas as well. Seawolf park in Galveston, turns on around Oct. and catch some awesome flounder. They use mud minnows for them, and they stay on the hook better than the shrimp.Oh, don't forget a trip to Fishing Tackle Unlimited in Houston, off I 10. Great place for gear and maps. Good fishing!
