Who uses Bondo to repair damaged areas on your bass boat?

Small areas is ok, but remember it is not waterproof. It will absorb water and fall off. So with that in mind, it needs to be sealed and sealed good. A better compound would be Marine Tex, JB weld or JB Quick. Or resin with cabosil.

I use marine-tex not bondo. Nothing bigger than say a silver dollar.

I tried Bondo-Glass on an old boat that had damage. I was skeptical because I didn't think it would be waterproof. The repair has held for more than 3 years, and he uses the boat at least twice a month year round. So, yeah, it's good for small repairs.

Hopalong did you make the nosecone that way also??? no that was a bobs I modified to fit the johnson, used jb weld to mount and the bondo to blend it in, if you use it on a lower unit be sure to sand to bare metal then use some 40 or 60 grit to really rough it up where the bondo goes. let it cure for a couple of days to sand and paint. if you paint it too soon it will take a lot longer to cure right.

I'll +1 on the Bondo that hop posted. It is easy to work with and will hold strong. I'm not sure if it is waterproof or not (I've never left it exposed). I've always put a coating over it (usually paint) and have never had a problem with it.

I wouldn't use regular automotive bondo filler for anything on a boat.
Ive used the stuff hopalong posted for all sorts of minor hull repairs on my own boats. It says on the container "water proof" and for "dime size and smaller" holes. Works well for small repairs.
In my experience if you use it for Quarter size and larger hull repairs and hit near or at the same spot again the impact will pop it out or at least loosens the repair. I always seal it with 2 ~ 3 coats of epoxy spray paint lightly sanding between each coat then paint or gelcoat to match.

if the patch is sanded with 80-100 grit then wiped with acetone it will bond forever, its fiberglass resin jelly with glass fibers, I have used it for some major stuff on boats in the past, some larger ones I will glass over some not if paint is being used. you can't rebuild a major break or delam with it but patchin holes and small cracks it is the best.

BONDO was originally invented for use on fiberglass boats, but took off as a car repair filler, most poeple dont know this.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !
