I have an extra reel that I need to pair up with a rod. Since Rod Riot is going on I thought this would be a good time to grab one. I plan on using it as just a basic all around rod. Mostly for Buzzbaits, or an extra T-rig or jig.
I was thinking about buying a 7' MH Berkley Lightning Rod IM6 1/2 to 1 oz.(only $25 during Rod Riot) But I didn't know if this rod had enough backbone to handle these.
Is this a good rod for these applications and as a good all-around rod? Or is there something else around this Rod Riot price that would be better?
Also what is the difference between these Lightning Rod IM6 and the other ones (I'm not talking about the shock series)? There are two types of these rods at Academy for the same price. The other ones seemed a little bit heavier. I just didn't know which was better (look at second post)

There is nothing wrong with a LR. I have had many since they started making them.I have two that are at least 10 years old and get used regularly.I just replace the tip every now and then.

Used lighting rods for years then switched to Falcons and I am now using the new lighting rod Shocks and have been very pleased with them, they are reasonably priced, and have good sensibility. I don't buy the high end rods because I'm so hard on them, usually step on the eyes and bend them 2 or 3 times and they break off after being straitened 2 or 3 times. For the price the Shock is hard to beat!

I've got some that are over 15 years old probably. Never had a problem with them.

Ive got like four of them and they are Imo the best deal. I would get a few just in case at that price.

I love mine. And im not a proponent of expensive rods. I have 3 shocks, and find them very responsive and reliable.

I saw them yesterday at Wally World, I try to stay out of three, but had to get something there. Ole Wally had quite a few good rods.

I picked one up at Walmart for $20 bucks. 7 foot version. I got it to use for deep diving crankbaits for my first Skeeter tourney back in 2008. A week later I caught a ten lb'er in that tourney on that rod and a $1.88 H20 crankbait that was on sale.... I'd say the rod has plenty of backbone.

Probably the best cheap rod around. Its all I used to fish with and I still have a five and a half for roll casting under docks. I also caught my PB over 11lbs on that rod,
