I'm going to try and learn a new style of fishing besides senkos, and spinner baits and try some jigs. I've never really done any jig fishing, do any of yall have any tips for me?

Once you master the Jig you will have a hard time fishing with anything else. It flat out catches lots of fish and big ones. Try to imitate the color of the bait that is prevalent. I love to use a 3/4 oz football jig in crawfish colors. Drag it on the bottom slowly for best results. You can be very versatile with a jig. Swim it, stroke it, punch it through grass, drag it, etc. Now is a great time of year to learn how to use a jig. Good luck!

I fish them just like a Tx rig with longer pauses and more pronounced hops. Crawfish color with a paca chunk trailer or black/blue with half a baby brush hog as a trailer in muddy or dark water to put off more vibration and profile.
Love 'em, whacked some nice fat ladies on them tonight.

Unless you're swimming it, slow is the key most of the time. I like to pitch it in, and let it sit for a few seconds. Then shake it. Then stop it and repeat. Im also a fan of "do nothing" trailers like beaver style baits.

If you like to Carolina Rig, then a football jig might be right up your alley. They both fish about the same way for most people.

Pretty straight forward. People lose faith in it starting out because it doesn't get as many bites as a 7 inch powerworm so they think they're doing something wrong. If you're using them shallow in heavy cover, do exactly what you would do with a Texas rig, just let the jig sit a little longer between jiggles/hops. The skirt is doing the work for you during the pauses. If you're using it offshore, start off dragging it slowly with short pauses, but don't be afraid to give it a quick hop every once in a while to surprise any fish staring at it to go ahead and hit it. As mentioned, the "jig" and all it's unlimited variations is about the most versatile tool out there so just go play with them. You'll develop your own preferences.
You don't have to get fancy with colors. Get a brown one, a green one, and a black/blue one with some kind of flappy trailer to match. If it looks like a crawfish in your area, you're doing right.

Jig fishing is my all time favorite bait! I have caught the biggest and most fish using on it over the years. It is also the bait that I have won the most money on too. Just throw in and try hops, pauses and drags and you will find what works. Also throw it in the nastiest places that you can see. throw it with some very strong line and get ready to yank a big girl out by her lips.

The jig is the most versatile and trustworthy bait on the market. A jig can do it all. And once you master it everything else is easy.

Just throw it until you get confidence by getting some bites. It's a lot easier to fish than a lot of people think.

A jig is a great tool for catching bass from thick cover and is pretty simple to fish. In shallow water use flipping jigs in 1/4 to 1/2 oz sizes. Flip and cast these jigs around cover such as laydowns, standing timber, and boat docks in 1-10 ft. As a general rule, the dirtier the water color, the closer bass will hang to cover so in muddy to stained water flipping a jig tight to cover can catch some nice bass. Most of your bites will occur on the fall or right after your jig hits bottom next to its target. In deeper water cast football head jigs from 1/2 to 3/4 oz on structure such as main lake points, creek bends, and humps. I like 15-25ft depths for my deep water football jig fishing. Slowly drag and hop the jig back to the boat. The key to working these football jigs right is to try and feel the lake bottom the entire way back to the boat. Whenever you feel your jig bump into a stump, rock, or brush make sure and lift and drop the jig a few times before continuing your retrieve. Most of the time in deeper water this is when you will get your bites. You can also shake the lure in place to coax a strike from the bass that is using that cover. Make sure to use a stout 7'-7'6" medium heavy to heavy rod with great sensitivity for jig fishing. Your rod will help you to not only feel the isolated cover that bass relate to but will also help you to have a strong hookset and the leverage to pull bass out of heavy cover. Usually the bite will feel like a light thump or tick when a bass eats your jig, when you feel this set the hook quickly. Always be ready when fishing a jig, the bites will be light and bass will not hang on to the lure very long. Use 15-20 line depending on what type of cover you are fishing. Here at Lake Fork, I use 20lb fluorocarbon line for most all of my jig fishing. Color selection can be kept pretty basic as black and blue or any shade of green and brown seem to work well under most conditions. I hope this helps, good luck fishing.
