What are the purpose of the micro guides on some rods. I have been wondering about them for a while. are there any advantages to using them

They are designed to increase sensativity and casting distance. I bought a micro guide rod back in February and love it. I can't say that I'm going to be like some and replace every rod I own with them but so far it has been a good purchase. My standard guide rods still work just fine too.

I have both. Love the sensativity in them. Draw back is they are not as durable as standard guides. I had two guides break off while hauling in a fish out of a Lake Fork stump and they tend to bend easy.

I made a similar post. The guides improve sensitivity, increase castingdistance. And people say the smaller guides are easier in the rod boxes.

best thing you can do is get some rod sox for them. W0hile transporting or putting them in a rod box these will protect them and will help the longevity of the guides and rod. Definitely worth the little extra money to protect your investment.

I learned the hard way....when you have to break off make sure you just cut your line, dont pull to break. If you do you will lose an eye.
