Is anybody using braid to fish for sandies and hybrids? Seems like overkill, but it hurts my feelings to leave my "Uglies" in a stump. Had good luck getting them back most of the time. shaped the hook up and put them back to work. Got to thinking i might get them pulled loose better with the braid. Mr. Johnny's white/chartruse and white/chartruse holo caught them this weekend.

Braid to me causes some problems.
I like to feel the line and when setting the hook on a big fish it goes closer to the finger bone than mono.
When I hang up BAD I can't just break it off like I can with mono.
When it gets a "bad spot" in it I can't see or feel it like I can with mono.
Gave up braid a few years back for the above reasons.

I personally don't like briad for sandbass. I am real good at getting slabs loose. I don't loose very many. What lake did you catch them on. Johnny

I only use braid. It will increase your sensitivity X10---IMHO it is a must for deadsticking in the winter.

I have braid on most of my rods and i love it!! I have mono on my crappie rods and my 11 year old has mono on his new baitcaster just because its easier to pick the backlashes out. I have started using floating flyline dressing on the last 10' if Im using a topwater bait. Plus braid doesn't breakdown in the sun like mono does. Just my opinion!
it's the crapy days that make the good days that much better!!!

I like braid. Stronger, last longer, much much less bird nest. FYI, Academy has the powerPro on sale this week. $10 bocks for 150 yrds. Regular is $13 bocks. 20# or 30# is great for lake fishing!

I went back and fourth for years... I use braid most of the time when slab fishing now, I hate the line twist that comes with mono, and the braids last much longer, however I do use a mono leader with the braids.

I use Braid on one of my bait cast rods that I throw slabs with. I mainly slab at an angle with reeling it in and then letting it fall. I prefer the sensitivity of the braid for this type of slabbing. I use a mono backer and I sure do like the feeling knowing that I can horse in a ten pound hybrid If i lock into one. I do the backer because braid has a tendency to bite down into the spool. This helps with some of that in my opinion.
I use mono on all my other reels.

I like 10# braid on a spinning rod for sandies, braid seems to be a lot stronger than what it's rated at so it's a little extra insurance if I hook into a big hybrid and I happen to have the drag set too tight. Use what your comfortable with.

Im 50/50 on braid. Sometimes I fish a lot of timber and it is just too hard to break off an ungettable lure. I do however really like it on push button reels for kids in the boat. You can get 20# strength in a 6# diameter that fits in a smaller push button that fits small hands.

Trolling with my hell-pet rig I use braid to the lure then a mono to the trailer. I want the hell bender back. I do like the feel you get with braid and I am able to "robin hood" my lures easer with it to get them to jump back off a rock or snag. My .02

If I am gonna use a balloon rig I will put 20-30 ft of mono on the braid so the balloon can go on mono. With braid the balloon won't pull through and come loose. Causes problems with a big fish on.
