Hell, I hope they can get more before it is over with. That is a tough way to make a living. Get up at 430 in the morning for a week straight and go fishing 8-10 hours every day no matter the conditions except lightning, stand on the tm. All day in the wind and remember you gotta put them on fish every day, by the way half you clients could well be idiots and you have to put up with them. See what you feel like at the end of the week. I would not do it for $500 a day. More power to them.

$400 is a great value. As said earlier, salt water guides charge a lot more. We use a guide to take customers on salt water trips all the time for work. Every time we write that check it is for $632.50, which includes his tip. This is for fishing Trinity Bay. Tim Young is without a doubt the best guide I have ever fished with and is worth every dollar. I have fished with Jim Edwards, Charlie Haralson, Erik Rue on Lake Calcasieu, Dave Kventon in Port OConnor, and several guides at Bay Flats.
The guys at Falcon that I have fished with have been great to fish with, if they raised their prices I'd still book with them. I've never had one that didn't try to earn his money.

that's OK, he has multiple personalities that use the same account.

It's 9pm and we just got off the water a little while ago. For the fisherman that believe $500 a day for a guide is ludicrous and have never been on this lake before I dare to come out here with your unrealistic high expectations. You will get blanked most likely . This lake is not fishing easy and a matter of fact it's extremely difficult if you do not know what you are doing.
I personally would be charging $800 a day right now with the amount of effort it takes to stay on these schools of fish. Not to mention the amount of running required.
The heat is brutal out here and making the "right" decisions in a burning hot sun all day is not easy.
Bottom line you could not pay me enough money to work this hard as a full time job. Did I mention the wind... Wow. You people have no idea. Much props to Tommy, Charlie, Jay and the rest of the past and current Falcon guides. I could not do it...

I imagine some of the guides are getting burnedout. Can you imagine guiding day after day -- I'm beat if I go more than 2 days in a row. Plus some of these guys are pushing 60! Probably wouldn't be the end of the world if they booked 4 days a week instead of 5 for the same money.
I don't know how they do it with the heat and wind every day.

In the end regardless of your profession, (Math Specialists, Speach Therapists, lawyers, teachers, construction, oil fields, doctors, vets, burger king workers, guides, etc, etc) you have to do what you feel is right by your family and those that count on you. I hope all the veterans out there had a great day. Thank you.
Jay Nice plug for the wife

I respect Tommy's decision and respect those guys here that have decided to move up on price. We all have been doing this for different numbers of years and in my case months. None of us have the same bills as the other and on and on. I personally have had to make some adjustments in what I charge. In particular for equipment/lure rentals, 3rd persons, and follow boats etc. I come from a mathematical background prior to jumping into the guiding field. I analyze every expense and try to stretch every dollar so that I can do this for the next 20 years and not go belly up. When it comes to the point where that dollar cannot be stretched any farther than adjustment must and will happen. It's about giving the client the best experience possible.
I for one am not coming close to making $62.50 an hour. I am up and 4 am everyday when I guide and dont hit the hay until 11 pm. I try to give my wife and kids 3 hours of that time a day. Over time I am hopeful that those hours will decrease some.(less time on web development and exposure, better off water routine, mainstream my daily journal, statistical data, resource usage, and so on and so forth.) I don't believe that there are many successful guides out there putting in their 8 hours a day and then kicking back and drinking an ice cold adult beverage afterwards. Then on my "off" days I am scanning and mapping every square inch of Falcon one creek or ditch at a time. That is a lot of time and a lot of money that comes off the bottom line. I know there are some that think it's as easy as finding rock that you can see and throwing a Mag Fluke at it. People don't pay me for that. They pay for the countless hours I put in to find spots within spots that have big fish on em more often then not.
Hiring a guide is not for everyone and that's cool. I for one have hired probably close to 50 guides in my life from TX to FL to VA to PA and everywhere in between and abroad. My father and I take a few weeks a year to hit new destinations and we always get a guide for the first 2 to 3 days of our trip. My philosophy is that I want to maximize our productivity on the water and not waste 2 or 3 or 4 or heck the whole trip on trying to locate quality fish.
Thank you.
Jay And this pretty much sums it all up. Don't think anyone could have said it better. It was nice meeting you this weekend, Jay. Good luck and thanks for the few pointers you gave us. We had an awesome day today after adjusting.
