Never fished off jetties before, is it better to fish shore side, channel, or is it best to get on the point to have all options open.

It depends on the wind and tide and how far down you are. If you use the search feature for "freeport Jetty" or some combination of jetty and you should find a ton of informative posts on fishing there.
