does anyone have/familiar with the point 65 north modular kayak I am strongly leaning towards buying one of the tequila style sot's they break apart the individual pieces float independently of each other so leaking wont be an issue plus there weight and portability make storage and travel so easy which are concerns for me considering I live in an apartment and have a small car. also you can make them into a tandem or triple kayak with the middle sections that are sold seperately. I am just about sold on this innovative product, and needless to say I will fully rig it with a nice seat light weight paddle rod holders and fish finder. any thoughts or comments on this kayak would be appreciated, especially from those of you that own one. many thanks.

I noticed that Cabelas as something similar now called "snap".

I really like Urban Angler's boat.

I have my own home spun "canoe" version that has a max length of 20' although configure it as a smaller boat. It was cheap to build too.

This boat is like a rigid hull, inflatable, pontoon, belly boat, bass buster type boat wrapped into one. It paddles fine and will take a trolling motor. It will fit in small cars pretty easily. As long as the back seats fold forward, it will fit (trunk or hatch).

But honestly, I built my first two boats not owning a single tool! Well maybe a screw driver. I borrowed a simple saw and electric drill for my first build. After building a couple of boats people bought me tools as gifts for holidays. So far I actually own a cordless drill, a hand held jig saw and a hand held sanderand thats it! Maybe $200.00 in tools (they were cheap ones, but they do serve other purposes). So thats what it took to build this boat (and like 10+ other small boats I have built so far). So a lack of tools is an ok excuse in my eyes. And space, you can get most of the big cuts of wood to make smaller pieces from the place you buy the wood. Easier to transport! (and if you notice in the video, my tailgate to my Ford Ranger is my work bench)

But anyway here are a couple of videos I did of my new boat. It cost me around $130.00 to build from scratch and so far has worked out just fine. In fact Im taking it on an eleven mile kayak trail tomorrow morning! The videos are long, just bear with them smile

Is this a boat for everyone...Heck no!!! But it's a boat I wanted based on spacific criteria I felt I needed out of a boat.

Here is an example of what it was really built for

Nice videos Urban Fisher! It doesn't look like you are missing out on a thing fishing with someone on a standard SOT fishing yak.

Whites-chaser, I'd be interested to see what feedback anyone has on those sectional kayaks too. Point 65 is a quality manufacturer from what I've read. Reading further the Cabelas "snap" kayak is made by Point 65 too. @~700 that's not bad given the fact it would be so easy to transport. I think you'd want "3 pieces" if you are going to be out chasing white bass on the lake.

Yes but I also noticed that snap system from cabelas is a foot shorter than the tequila sot I'm refering to and its not that long right at 10 feet so I'm trying to get the most boat for the money and that tequila is 700 for the solo and 1100 for the tandem style. If space wasn't such an issue I would buy an ocean kayak 12 or a tarpon 120 but storage in an apartment is so tight. But hopefully one of us has bought one and can give me some feedback.

IMO they wouldn't offer much performance.
They'd probably work fine for exploring creeks n pond hopping.

We sell the Point-65. We currently have a Tequila solo in stock that you can come down and test drive. We keep them in stock because we're right next to an RV park, and RVers are always mindful of storage space. The Tequila is a more sturdy choice than an inflatable, but doesn't break down quite as far. It does offer the performance of similar sized yaks. If storage is an issue, like Zombie's photo of the yak inside of a Mini, it's worth taking a peek at.

Free test drives, everyday!
