I am saving up the money to buy new or used electronics for my boat. What can I get for $1,000? Should I buy new or used? I would like to mount it on the console. What needs to be included to complete the package? (Power cord, gps, etc.) I would also like for it to have GPS. What chips would I need for Lake Fork and how much do they cost? Thanks for your help.

You'll get more bang for your buck buying used. If you are patient and don't need it right away, you can get a great deal. I bought my humminbird 997 navionics bundle for a little over 1000 last fall. Didn't include a ram mount but came with everything else.

You might be able to get a Gen1 HDS8 for close to that price.

I've got an humminbird 898 that cost 1229.99 brand new then add in the ram mount, cards, etc. It was almost $1500

You might be able to get a used Gen 1 HDS8 plus a used LSS-1 for that price. If you can't get both, get the HDS8 and save the extra towards an LSS-1 or see if you can fit a used HDS-7 Gen 1 plus used LSS-1 in that budget.

I've seen a lot of people selling their gen 1 HDS units at great prices. I'm sure you could find a 7 and maybe even an 8 at that price. Then you could add the LSS1 later.
