I think Texas should follow the plan they used in Oklahoma years ago. They should build good sized reservoirs above the existing lakes to control flooding and hold more water that can be used to control the levels in the lakes. That way they can let out what they need when the water levels starts dropping during a drought. They need more lakes in the sw part of the state south of Bandera and west of I35. JMHO

You saying the section between Mineral Wells and Santo? Much farther down and it becomes Lake Granbury!

They need to bring back The Cuero project. After the Guadalupe leaves Canyon, it basically flows right to San Antonio Bay along with the San Marcos River. The river lakes (Dunlop, Placid, Mc Queeney, Gonzales, and Wood) don't hold back any water, they are for the most part constant level. Cuero Project would have been about a 50,000 acre lake that would have backed up to Gonzales.

I hope they follow through with Columbia, will be an awesome lake, lots of timber and draws thru the mud creek area, and lots of runoff. Plus it close!

They ought to build one near Harlingen tx. So they wouldn't have to use so much water from falcon and amistad and when hurricane comes in it will catch rain water. Plus it would be the same type of climate as falcon so guess what that means for bass growth. One more thing is make it on USA side and we don't have to share water with Mexico and put up with the dang nets.

Cuero Project would have been about a 50,000 acre lake that would have backed up to Gonzales. This would hurt many things, including San Antonio Bay, by restricting the amount of Freshwater flowing into the bay. The Texas Coast was once one of the best Tarpon Fisheries in the World, until we dammed our rivers and restricted the freshwater flow into the bays. This killed it. It is just now might be starting to rebound, don't kill it again.

I know that Richland Chambers was going to be the next big thing years ago when they built it and it started out as a good bass lake but I dont hear a lot about it anymore, I was told that the lakes main problem is that is does not have a river system running through it to flush the silt and sediment, have no idea if that is true or not.
Cuero would be great, heck any where in South Texas would be great as long as it has a river system tied to it.

It just doesn't fish very big for its size, alot of people still don't know about it and doesn't get alot of pressure compared to say cedar creek but thats changing as more and more houses get built there.
