The following is a transcript from the BassPro Customer service rep:
08:58:53 PM] Hi, my name is Charles. How may I help you?
[08:59:34 PM] jy: Can you give me any information on why all of the BassPro XPS Fluorocarbon was recalled and pulled from the shelves of every store?
[09:09:26 PM] Charles: Some of the spools were not wound correctly, and there were issues. We have pulled all the spools to be replaced with spools that are certified correct. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
[09:12:00 PM] jy:i have approximately 6 reels filled with XPS Fluoro, should I be concerned with performance?, and is BassPro going to offer any way for me to replace this defective line?
[09:13:55 PM] Charles: One moment, please. [09:18:02 PM] Charles: Thank you for your patience.
[09:18:27 PM] Charles: We can credit the purchased amount towards the purchase of other line or refund the amount. [09:18:51 PM] Charles: We do not yet have a firm date for when the new line will be in the stores again.
[09:19:36 PM] jy: sounds good. Do I do that at the local store?
[09:19:43 PM] Charles: Yes, you may. [09:20:06 PM] Charles: You may wish to contact them ahead of time. [09:20:34 PM] jy: thank you for your attention to this matter
So, I went to the BassPro in Bossier today, but they actually only gave me credit for the spools/cartons that I still had. Luckily, I happened to have 4 spools/cartons with some line left one them so I got about $100 worth of credit that I used towards a 1000 yd spool of Invisx.
Just wanted to let the TFFers know that you can get credit on a Basspro gift card to replace the defective line. Hope this helps some.
**just a side note, I caught a 10.33 on 17lb. XPS Fluoro before I heard about the problem, so I'm guessing this is a hit and miss issue, but I can't take the chance on having some of the bad stuff on one of my reels, so I am replacing it all.

I caught a 10-09, 9, and a few 3-4's on Falcon this past weekend on a 20# spool I bought three weeks ago. No problems whatsoever. As a matter of fact, it took a ton of work to break off a CB that I could not pop loose. I understand your concern, but I am not worried at all....nor am I going to ask for a full refund for partial spools of perfectly good line. JMHO

Unfortunately they are only saying it is a spooling issue which according to what they say, doent affect line performance. Also, it is not on every spool but not sure whether, it has twist or not filled properly. In any case, they are choosing their words carefully when asked for details. If your line is ok, dont worry about it.

Does anyone know how to tell if your line should be recalled? I bought my last spool a couple months ago, but I think this whole ordeal started well after that.

As far as I know it only is the regular XPS flourocarbon - I talked to the Guys at the BPS in Katy again on Sunday - they still couldn't tell me when it would be back on the shelf though. I've been using Suffix flouro and it's pretty good stuff.

If it is a spooling issue then the line performance shouldn't be a problem as long as you were careful to look for issues. This is a quality control issue in the manufacturer/distributor relationship that BPS has decided to take to task. They are sending it back so they receive credit back before ordering any more. The same thing happened with Nike in the mid 90's on Jordan sneakers. There was an issue with the way they were packaged so every pair got recalled and sent back.

It created weaves and non straight line on the spools. I have some back in Janirary and picked some more up that had it. Now I check it but I can go to Academy and get Invix for under 20 bucks a roll so..... Yup I switched

Rumor has it that Bass Pro Shops XPS Fluorocarbon is manufactured by Seaguar. I don't know this for certain, it's just what I've been told by someone who should know.

I asked a BassPro rep in the Katy store over the weekend as to the problem and I was told it was primarily an inconsistent line diameter issue.
He mentioned they were noticed 'shaving' of the line when they were spooling reels there in the store. They made the decision to take all the stock they had and return. If this is the case, then it is more than a spooling issue.

The spooling issue was it was nicking the line when they were spooling it on and trust me it was a bad bad problem.
So to say it wasnt a performance issue would be 100% incorrect.
