Either leave some backing mono on the spool and tie the braid to the mono with a blood not, or wrap the spool with some electrical tape and spool up as usual. Leave more braid off of the spool than what you normally do with mono. It can be a serious problem if you over fill the spool with braid. Hope this helps!

I put braid on the majority of my spinning reels.I use a few turn of mono and then tie the braid to it. Some reels are more sensitive to wind knots than others. Most knots start immediately after you flip the bail. The braid will sometimes wrap partially around the drag instead of fully on the spool. It's hard to make yourself do it but if you take a little extra time to make sure that doesn't happen you will greately reduce the wind knots.

what jagg said...
I always use mono as a backing and then put on less braid than I think fits. Always under spool it with braid on a spinning reel in my opinion. But it is what I have my saltwater and catfish reels set up with and works perfect

On the backing line, I always go with a lighter lb test, something that is about what the reels is specified for, this way if I get spooled and the line breaks off, it is easier on the reel.

Thanks for the help. So a reel that is around a 2500 style like the Shimanos can hold the 50# braid.
I will certainly back it up, I even us mono and some electrical tape on my baitcasting reel as back up for my braid...

I wouldn't put 50# braid on a 2500 spinning reel. I have several good ones and I use 20# braid. you can get more line on the reel, it will cast farther, and 20# test is much stronger than the drag will be.

+1 Ive got 20# on 6 rods and love it no need for 50# on that small reel, way overkill, that said ive even got 20# on 4000 series love the way the 20# casts. What cha usen it for to need 50# ? 2500 too small for 50# my opinion Ive tried 30# and didnt cast near as good as 20#

Always backfil your spool with mono. Braids digs into itself and slips.

I will get in on this as I recently this spring had the same question, hate to say it but Power Pro Braid is not what you want, I learned the hard way also, I had 500 yds of #100 on my Fin-Nor 95 and had it cut too many times on shells, sand abarasion and most anything else, Jerry Brown is the best by far of braid, no comparison there, Sufix832 would be 2nd. Always use a turn or 2 of tape on the reel shaft with braid and go around it 2 times before tying a knot. Any questions PM me, I have tried braid for yrs on Saltwater and learned the hard way from it.
