 Trolling Motor for Pontoon

I am looking to get a trolling motor for my old pontoon boat. But I have a couple of questions.
1) Will a transom mount work if you place it on the bow? Functionality?
2) What do you suggest for shaft length?

Get the longest shaft you can and the most powerful you can afford. Bow mounts are best.
