So backtrack to the day after mothers day. Me and the family decide we wanna go fishing. ( we are northern so we missed fishing alot ) So we travel to lake Conroe only to find out its more of a boating area .. there's an hour lost I'll never get back . so we end up at Tom bass 1 ... The kids caught sunnies and granma caught the tree ... Next day we go to burrough's park .. I caught a turtle and lo and behold DH caught a catfish .. But I'll be damned if the rest of the day those damned flicking turtles stole our baits... we tried again the next day but further up the lake only to find our there's still like 100 turtles!!!! So today we tried Tom bass regional 3 ... And once again we are bombarded again by turtles... I just wanna catch a fish....So I guess my rant is just that a rant and I guess fishing is out cause the turtles are bothering me and my bait... Wish I knew what to do so I can be a happy fisher again. I hope I haven't bugged anyone ... Thank you and I would love a few pointers or tips if possible:)

Burroughs got real low last year so the turtles are probably the main residents now.

On Conroe there are a couple of places you might be able to bank fish, Scott's Ridge is now open and Cagle Rec Area. There is also Stubblefield, I just have never been there.

I have all kinds of bait and they eat almost all of them ... Stink bait, crawlers , shrimp , super bait ( red fish ) , catfish dough , hell I've even tried hot dogs lol

I am Gunna look into those area's thank you ... A friend yesterday told me a fishing hole would be good ... But she said that everywhere has thieving turtles...

I' m thinking if I do catch a turtle .. Turtle stew isn't Gunna be in my plans .. I'm thinking torturous things for them

Put on a smaller hook and catch the turtle atleast then u know its turtes stealing the bait not blue gill

In Oklahoma and Oregon we used beef or chicken livers for catfish. Nothing else would touch our bait and it leaves a great trail in the water for the fish to follow.

Oh how I feel your pain... Our stories are extremely similar. I'm from up north as well and recently became an active fisherman again as the urge consumed me... Apparently turtles and catfish are the new Clark Kent/Lex Luthor in TX... Turtles just refuse to go away... My friend and I were just discussing how turtles have a personal vendetta against us as they consistently rob us blind regardless of bait/hook size. I just got owned again yesterday during my unintentional turtle feeding session at Pilot Knoll Park aka Turtle Kingdom. Somehow line always seemed to get wrapped around sunken branches like a dream catcher while my bait mysteriously regardless of what methods I employed to retain it. Couldnt hook a thing even while using the Carolina rig and having the tension in my line increase until the point that you would have to assume that whatever had my bait must have committed to the feast... Sorry, but felt the need to share the platform on this vent session... I dunno what else to do with these vile beasts... Lol

I've been having the urge to fish too that's why I'm bummed out cause every where I went the scrawny f***ers would steal our bait... I've just decided "turtles are bad m'kay" .. Really wish I knew where to go ... Where there there aren't any turtles!!!!

Seems like when the fish are biting good, you don't have near the problem with turtles. When the turtles are biting, you don't catch many fish.
