Its a INTEX CHALLENGER K2 Inflatable Kayak. Bought this baby from a garage sale on Saturday for 20 bucks! Came with 1 oar, carring bag, and one life vest. Took it out on the water with my daughter and it was great! but, was very hard to keep straight. It needed a proper rudder, the skeg that is attached the bottom are useless. Made my homemade rudder today from PVC pipe, couplers, and plexi glass. It turned out perfect and looks awesome. Took about an hour to make it and cost about 30 bucks. Plexi glass is very expensive. Here some pictures and videos. Hope to get it on the water soon! vv--CLICK ON PICTURE FOR VIDEO--vv

Nice find! Curious to hear how the skeg helps it track, you'll have to keep us in the looop.
Another adaptation you might consider is to use one of those cheap styrofoam boogie boards or some thin plywood and some foam as a seat. It will make the boat a bit faster and also keep you drier.

how will a styrofoam boogie board make the boat faster??? lol Problem with most inflatable boats is that they have no rigidity. By lining the floor space with something like a styrofoam boogie board would (should) give the boat some rigidity that would (should) help immensely with both speed and tracking. Higher end inflatable kayaks either come with or have as an option a rigid internal frame ... the boogie board in this case would be used to serve the same purpose. Check out this internal frame and the reviews for more information ... http://www.rei.com/product/752783/advanc...me-single-kayak

Now that makes sense!!! Thank you for clearing that up for me. The simple statement that a foam boogie board should make it faster just didnt sit well with me lol.

I took the kayak back out on the water this afternoon, but this time with the rudder attachment that I had made. It was windy as H*LL out side and was tough paddling through it. The rudder worked great. Took little effort to track straight an once I got it moving at a good pace it keep going on a straight line with no problems. I am very happy with the results. We tried fishing when we were out in the middle of the pond, but kept getting blown to the shore faster than we could fish. Overall, I had a great time out on the water with my daughter and will be going for a second round when the wind dies down. Here are some pictures and a video. My daughter took the middle and she did her best to narrate. LOL. Very shaky and windy, think "Blair Witch Project on water". vv--CLICK ON PICTURE FOR VIDEO--VV

Congrats again on a great find ... anytime and any way to get out on the water is good. And kudos for the rudder design. I think you will really enjoy the boat once we get these crazy winds to die down for a while.
But warning, it is an addiction. Be careful as that $20 you spent may lead to an undeniable desire for a hardshell yak. And then another, and another ...
Trust me, I know. Between the wife, kids, and myself, there are currently six in my garage right now.

Great find indeed. Keep in mind that the Waterstone Lake is private property for residents. They are cracking down over there. Learned the hard way.
