Gents,

I currently live in California and if everything goes as planned I will be be living out in the Fort Worth area do to a job transfer to a Plano Facility. I have 2yrs experience in ocean fishing but last time I freshwater fished I was about 8. I did look around out there and there seems to be lots of lakes in the area and was wondering if could bug you guys for some general info.
Where do I fish around here without getting run over by a 12ft boat with a 500 hp engine? Do the winds pick up after a certain time? Gators or other critters that would like to chew on my feet?
Hope to here from you guys incase you see me I will be in either a White Malibu Extreme or a
Blue and White FND. Oh yah I'm the mean looking Mexican, bald head with a a smile from ear to ear.
Ok enough of that before one of you ask me if I like long walks in the park hahahahahah!
Anyway tight lines Gents! Adios!

cheers

Welcome Aboard Big Gus!
I think most of us fish the rivers and slews of lakes to stay out of the way of most boats. The winds vary form day to day, no real set pattern. No Gators just a few snakes to look out for.
Give us a shout when you get in town.

Greetings Gus:
I know the traffic in LA is bad, but you may want to think about commuting from Fort Worth, to Plano everyday. Equally as brutal.
Good fishing here too.

I would agree the commute from Ft. Worth to Plano is brutal. My wife did it for 3 months and hated it. There are plenty of places to fish around here that are yak friendly.

Welcome Big Gus. I am a L.A. by way of San Luis Obispo transplant also. One of the things you love about Texas is the State Park system which is second to none. There are dozens of options within 200 miles for you to explore. Hope the summer heat and humidity won't be too much of a pain. Good luck

Stoker, Butch Sanders, FlederMaus and Sloc Cal,
nice to meet you all, as soon I am free I will advise of moving obligations. Will have the monster in law with me the first week so Ill try to sneak away during this time.
As for the heat and humidity I will have to work with it who knows the name might change to Slim?

Big Gus,

I'm also a So. Cal. transplant. You'll find great kayak fishing opportunities here. You'll be more concerned about snakes than you will gators. If you stay away from the Eastern side of the state, there are fewer near Dallas. If you are going to work in Plano, you shopuld consider living in the Frisco or Colony area, or perhaps a little north of there to get out of current suburbia. There are 4 large lakes within 20 minutes to an hour, not to mention Lake Fork that is arguably the best fishing in the state.

You can also make over night trips to the Gulf for trout and redfish, or river trips to the south, so get ready for many opportunities.

Give us a hoot when you get local.
