Until last year, I probably had not thrown a fly since high school (and that was a while back!!). After putting together a pretty inexpensive outfit last summer, I used it a couple of times, but have really gotten "bit by the bug" this year.

And in all of my years of fishing, I'm not sure I've ever had as much fun as I did yesterday morning. Didn't get out too early, but hit a couple of ponds near the house, and started off by throwing some random flies with some luck. After fishing one spot a few minutes I kept feeling something crawling up my leg, and then I noticed some sort of "wooly worm" everywhere ... on the ground, my legs, and all over the reeds and cattails. "Match the Hatch", right? Well I dug into my stash, found the closest thing I could find. Added a strike indicator to my leader to keep the bait just under the surface ... AND IT WAS ON!!

In about an hour and a half or so ... I caught just over 100 bream (most 5-7 inches, with a few smaller and 4-5 that went close to 9). Also picked up my first ever LMB on the fly. He wasn't the largest I've ever caught by any means, but definitely special for me. Also, there was a huge LMB lurking ... and actually twice took a bream after I had hooked him ... that was a fight, but since the bass wasn't hooked, they spit out the fish or I pulled it out of his mouth.

A great day ... one of those that we (I) dream about and get to experience only rarely.

That sounds like a grand slam, bottom of the ninth, with a full count!
