hi, i am looking to invest in a good yak for fish, i would like one that has rod holders can hold a good sized tackel box, is comfortable, maybe stand in it. and can with stand a big fish on the other end. this yak would be used for fresh water. any ideas would be great. i was looking at the malibu, are those good? i would like to spend no more than $700 but if a quality good one that will last cost more, i can and will save my $$$.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? I would not worry about if the yak has a rod holder or not. I suggest adding them later. That why you know where you want them. Malibu have thin plastic compared to others.

The whole "meeting" is going to be just that... a meeting... most of us have never met and are wanting new fishing partners and to share info with each other... nothing formal we are just getting together for fun... very informal and just a b.s. session...

tart,I am very partial to Wilderness System kayaks. In my opinion a WS.Ride should be everyones first yak.A friend told me that on my first and that was the best advice I ever took.Mountain Sports have them right there in Arlington.Use it a couple of years and then sell it for nearly what you pay for it.Yes I am a TKFer too.

Tart,
Make sure you pick a Yak that can handle your weight plus your gear. Also make sure you get one that has enought room for someone tall. I have the Cobra Explorer and love it. It is problably not big enough for you. The Cobra Expedition is probably a better model for you. The Wilderness Ride is also a good option. I have a buddy that has one and he love it.

I bought my kayak form Mountain Sports. I have a WS Tarpon 140. Steve from Mountain Sports helped me out with everything, he's a real nice guy and super helpful. I would recommend Mountain Sports to anyone. I also have to agree with Copperhead Wilderness Systems are good kayaks. You can tell by how much used ones are going for. Of course I'm a little prejudiced since I own one.
