Well,

It was my first time out in my Hobie Outback. Man, the Mirage Drive really has some speed. I had no problem moving into a 10 mph wind. It was enough to move me around pretty good. The drive doesn't do well in tight spots, but to get you where you want to go, it's great.
I managed one dink, so at least I didn't get skunked. I was mostly trying to figure out how to manuever.
I was up in Indian Creek south of the bridge. I found a spot where a roadbed has a path to the lake, but it was pretty rough with the kayak on wheels. You couldn't drag one down there. I don't think that will be the most accessable spot from here on out, but it does get you into a good area. There were plenty of boaters passing wondering what the heck I was peddling. It was cool!
Anyway, I'm officially a kayak fisherman now.

Now I have two hobbies to spend $ on. Fishing and kayaking! banana banana banana

/Dave

Way to go Lunker. You definitely are ate up with it now, officially. Oh, and welcome to the club. It won't take you too much time or money to set up your yak. I paid 650 for my Ride and outfitted it with depth finder rod holders battery anchor trolley and a few "d" rings in strategic locations for around $225. You will get used to the looks, I have been fishing my lake for over 2 seasons and folks still look and honk at me, sometimes yell out. Good luck

Thanks!

I think my next purchase is a depth finder. I think I'd like to try more deep fishing instead of beating the bank all the time. Everyone I fished with in a boat never has the patience to sit in one spot for a while. That was nice about Saturday. I just sat in this cove for a while, making as little noise as possible. No motor, just a little paddling. I was ready! They just didn't get behind my whole scene there.

I'll get 'em!

Congrats on the yak purchase... A depth finder is a good investment.. There are several ways to mount the transducer so that you don't have to put a hole in the hull of your boat. Just google it and you'll see. I have mine set in silicone in the bottom of my hull inside my back compartment, and it works great. The only that that sucks is the temp gauge only reads the air temp in my compartment. I figure if the water's too cold for my butt to be out there, I don't need to know what the temp is, I just ain't going.

Look me up next spring, and we can chase the crappie and sandies in the creeks or even get on some of those bedding bass...

I've been wanting to plan a kayak/camping trip out to Wolf Island, but just haven't got it all together yet. Maybe I'll do it sometime next spring...

Good Luck..

Sounds good to me! I think that Wolf trip would be cool. Which depth finder did you go with?

I actualy have a pirhana max 20 that came with it when I bought it.. The guy I bought it from had did all kinds of modifications for it, and even built some outriggers for it so it would be more stable.. I've never used them though, because I think they's just slow me down more than anything else..
