We were fishing for blues in Tawakoni yesterday close to the slabs...an alligator snapping turtle (that's what we called them growing up) that was about 3-4 ft wide and look like it weighed 70lbs surfaced right by the boat! Wish i had a pic. I've been fishing and swimming in Tawakoni my whole life and have never seen one that big.

on another note, we caught tons of shad but only caught 16 blue cats...they are starting to slow down. not sure if we need to go deeper or what. we fished everything from 5-15ft yesterday.

I saw one that big at Athens before. It was so big I didn't believe it was a turtle until I got a little closer.

I know there used to be a huge one at the fish hatchery in athens, it looked like something time had left behind.

I was squirrel hunting during the early fall several years ago in the Sabine bottom southeast of Greenville and I heard something splashing in the water. I walked towards the bank and saw 2 huge snapping turtles. They must have been as big as a 16 inch tire. My buddy that I was hunting with wanted to kill one and I said absolutely not! I told him if you shoot one I will never hunt with you again. They must have lived for a long time to get that big and I did not see any point in killing them.

seen one in the same area a couple of weeks ago.

We were fishing our club tourney and I swore it was a gator!! It was so big it's back floated up and then sunk back down it's head was probably the size of a volleyball!!! Scared me hahaha at least until we foun out it was a turtle didn't get close went down before we could and could take pic cause we were facing in the sun

I caught a big one a while back. Intense!

oh man, these bad boys can get huge and live or a long...time.
