We spent the whole day on lake in various locations watching everyone around us pulling in stripper. We were using live bait with 1/0 hooks. Not a single stripper. Our bait were minnows that were on the larger side. I would like to make the next trip a better one help please!!!

Try some slabs and swimbaits from moestackleshop.com Can't go wrong with a slab. If you are using live bait get some shad.

were you in a cabin cruiser with 2 other guys? did you have trouble getting the anchor to drop off of Grandpapy Point? Do you have a fish finder?

We were on a ranger only two of us, we did have a fish finder, and no anchor issues. I think we just didn't have the right bait and didnt research enough prior to making our first trip up.

Hard to beat shad for bait on Texoma. I would bet the guides were using shad. You might think it wouldn't make much of a difference. Usually it does, Sometimes they will hit cigar minnows. We were out yesterday on proven coordinates using HUGE minnows, and got nothing. I should have known better. I do know better ...
Get a cast net, learn to throw it, then learn where to catch shad. Right now I am finding them in the morning up in shallows. I think they may be spawning? A couple good throws of the net and I'm done. (It's not always that way!)
Trolling with Sassy Shad or rattle traps is also productive. Good luck.

No we definitely have a better fishing etiquette than to do that.

When you say large minnows gist how big were they ? Could be a lot of things . Could be your fishing your bait at the wrong depth..just cuz your in an area with fish ya still gotta present your bait properly.. I actually know of some guides still using shiners insteadvof Shad and they are catching fish..albeit not near as many nor as big but they are filling the box with small box fish.. Could be your fishing near other boats but at a totally different depth...I can be anchored in 25 feet of water and hAvE a boat tied up right behind me sitting in 45 feet..in some places just a few feet away can mean a depth change of many feet. Are your using fluorocarbon leader ? It will make a big difference. Are you marking fish on your graph? Sometimes when fishing too close to other boats who are catching fish it is hard to pull those fish away from that boat especially if they are doing a good job keeping baits in the water..getting fish under your boat and keeping them there is more than just luck. There is a reason good bait fisherman catch limits of fish day in and day out..it's much more than just droPping bait down and waiting... In fact in my opinion there's more of an art to bait to bait fishing than lure fishing.. I spent the first 5 years of my guide career fishing lures only..I can tell you from personal experience being a great bait fisherman is more difficult. Those other lure snobs can disagree but I really don't care.. Lot to learn to be a good bait fisherman have have success. Those are just a few suggestions you can start with

Always great info from JD. Still can't get the live bait thing figured out. Good thing I can usually catch a few on lures. Just got my boat back together, so I plan to be hitting Big T more often with my little man. Getting to hot to chase Hawgs. :-)

Those are just a few suggestions you can start with These were the biggest minnows I have ever seen. But after reading your post here I can see there were a lot of things that we were doing wrong!! I am printing of your post and will be trying a new approach next time I'm up there. I would like to get the lunkers using both lure and bait fishing. Be a well rounded fisheman But seriously thanks for the advice it will be put to use.
