I caught 4 good keepers out of the yak on Sunday morning. From 5 pounds down to 1.5 pounder. I had 4 throw backs due to lack of room in my floating basket. The throw backs were just legal size and not much else. Also 1 Drum. All fish were caught in 2 -3 foot of water from 7:00 A.M.-9:00 A.M. After that I did a little drift fishing with a lot of bites but no hook ups. This was my first trip to CCL in about 2 months on the yak. It is a lot more enjoyable out there now with the weather like it is! Here ar a couple of pics.

I just can not go wrong when I use minnows from Big Chief Landing. I have been wanting to try out some Danny King Punch bait I bought, at CCL, but like I say the minnows are still working great.

Great catches. I think the minnows at Big Chief are magic. I like using live bait because you have a chance at a big flathead plus the bass, crappie, and drum like them. Hopefully I'll see you on the water. I haven't gone in three weeks and I haven't kayaked in two months, really for no reason just busy doing other things. My priorities are messed up I know.

Thanks Gator, it was a good morning out there. I agree with the possibilities of any species of fish being caught. 2 months huh, not good Gator. I did not do quite as much this summer as far as fishing from the yak, but I did take them to lake Jacksonville for pleasure. It is back on now though and I will have to fish your area next time out. It will probably be this Sunday morning. Are you working??? Randy

I'm working on Sunday, I tell you the water is as low as I have seen it around our docks. You might want to head down by Don's Port instead. The docks are in deeper water.

Yeah the lake is pretty low right now. It must not effect the cats too much though, mine were caught in 2 -3 feet of water. It was overcast that morning though and not hot, I don't think I will have as good of luck this Sunday with the weather like it is going to be. I might try the deeper end of the lake again soon. I didn't fair as well at Don's Port the only time I went. Have you fished out of there?

Sadly, I haven't but I hear good reports in that area. I've also heard that fishing is usually good by the water gates for sandies and hybrid strippers but haven't had a chance to check it out. I'll let you know if I do, between the two of us we'll get some good information. I'm at work right now studying programming (super boring) but I have to learn it.
