Where do you store a yak if it won't fit in your garage? I just don't have a good place with 13+ feet to hang it from. I've thought about a storage shed, because my wife would like me to move some yard stuff outside. Does anyone store theirs outside or have any good ideas? What about cutting an access hole in between beems in the garage ceiling, and storing this in the attic? This may be my only option inside.
Any ideas?
/Dave

I keep mine outside upside down on some L brackets next to the house. I also treat it with some UV protectant. Hasn't faded a bit. Been doing this for five years and it is a WS RIDE.

P13,
That is a nice setup there. I'd like to keep it inside if possible, but I may end up with the same deal as pal stated. I'm going to see if there is a way that I can get it into my attic, and create a sling like what is shown above. I still don't know what length I'm going to be going with, but I expect it will be at least 13'. I've flirted with the idea of a tandem so that my wife can go with me, but they are heavy for one person if she doesn't.

If you decide to put it inside, I can give you some helpful details and pictures.

Thanks Jerry,
I realized that the current attic access hole in my garage is probably the best bet if I want to store in the attic. Any worries about how hot it gets up there? I don't know if this would affect any of the gear on the yak. I figured I'd rig a pulley up in the rafters, connected to the bottom end of the yak. This way I can stand it on end, and pull it up with the nose guided into a sling. This is all theory for now, and nothing ever goes as it does in your head. I'm still just kicking it around for now. /Dave

"I've flirted with the idea of a tandem so that my wife can go with me, but they are heavy for one person if she doesn't". Hey Lunker, I have a tandem Hobie and I have very little problem loading it solo. Even when I loaded it on the roof of the van it was possible. I believe my tandem is 12 pounds heavier than my solo "Ride". It is nice to be able to go out with 2 people when you want and then go solo also. Good Luck. Storage is easy for me, I have a ton of trees on my land, so I store outside on my flatbed trailer with a tarp, at times.

Cedar,
What manufacturer is the tandem? Which model?

I picked up a couple of extra large S-hooks at Elliot's that I secured to the garage ceiling. I am able to stand in the pickup bed and secure/unsecure my 10'9" Dagger Bayou pretty easily.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
