Really?

Yep, this was back in early Feb. We were shootin the breeze at Cabelas, I mentioned I fish for Carp/Buffalo he said he saw them stacked up thick at Whitney. I said "that place is dead for Stripers.." he quickly interrupted, told me he was a guide and said there's locations that hold a ton of fish if you know where to look. And he added, for $350 he'd show me anytime. wink lol..

Maybe it was. I'll still take the first hand accounts over a 3-month old report from some unknown individual, I'd be happy to hear otherwise from him or someone having success there though.

Fished the Noland 3 weeks ago, thought the alge would not effect it. Caught one 4 lb bass , and a gar. Best day I've had lately. Went to Soldiers Bluff Tue, Fished all over the big end, ZERO!!! Decided against the Bohemian Tourn. Will go down for the Sausage and the weigh in. I predict they will have more prizes to give, than fishermen to accept them. Keith

Hate to see that Whitney is still dead. Went in mid March and went out with a guide on a 1/2 day trip. 1 striper and $340 in guide fees/tips. Very disappointing as I love that lake frown

Only around 138 people @ weigh in yesterday at the BC tourn.Big fish was just under 7lb.Total weight was just 15.90lbs.Out of 138 people, only 62 caught fish. You tell me if she is dead or not.I hooked a 7lb + snapped my line when is got to the boat, lost 2 more pretty good ones who spit out my senko.Landed one 2lber.It was sad seeing people at weigh in with 1 or 2 little 2lber.I just don't get it.Shad are ever where.A big old thanks goes out to the people of West Bass Club, they once again put on the best for all of us

So does anyone have any ideas what is going on. Everything I have read says the algae fish kill was really pretty minor compared to what it has been in the past. Could it be the influx of new water after being down for so long has the fish bunched in new locations? I am hoping to do some catfishing this weekend.

The water was down for so long and it came up like 18ft in a week and a half. On top of that it was right in the middle of the golden algae outbreak.

Although the toxicity in the water I believe has subsided, thats a lot of change that happened all at once, and the fishing suffered.

The lake has always fished better with the lake low.

For whatever reason the largemouth bite is non-existant right now, only took 4.75 to win the media tourney and there were some serious sticks that zero'd.

If the shad survived, that's a great sign. At least the toxins from the algae weren't at too high a level - otherwise that many shad would have never made it.

It sounds like things are just starting to turn the corner.

Seems like a minor or major fish kill on either Granbury, Whitney is happening every 1-2 years now?

Recent Notables: 40lb Flathead, 30lb Carp, 25lb Buffalo.

Thats about right, sometimes they are major kills but just localized like the one up the river last year, we have not had a real bad lake wide outbreak for awhile.
