Here is a pic of a 2.1#, 18" small mouth. Similiar to yours but no distinct verticle stripes or yellow on belly.





If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,

I think shoal bass might be right. But, I really think the photos are inconclusive. Just a suggestion. Next time, take some additional photos from different angles. Would probably have helped to have photos of the inside of the mouth / tounge. Regardless beautiful fish.

That's what I'm thinking...you know what a pic does to a true 5#...makes it look like a 3#'r. That fish looks to be about 4-1/2 to 5#'s to me.

It's a shoal bass, part of the sunfish family. Hints the stripes, very nice shoal Fo sho. Go rilla!

Could be a Guadalipe. Do not believe Shoal Bass are native to TX.
