Here is the scenario...I am fishing a pond with MONSTER carp. I have been fishing with corn there for about 6 times straight. Right now I would say the carp to catfish ratio is 1 to 200. This is no joke either! And the catfish are TINY!!! I am extremely frustrated. Never had this problem anywhere before. I have caught cats on corn before, but never this bad. Its like fishing for reds and just slaying hardheads haha. I don't want to wait for bolies to come in. I would like if someone could throw out some suggestions that I can use today! Haha. Thanks in advance!

I really didn't make that clear enough...I am sorry. I wants something that carp will bite and catfish will not!!!! I don't think the carp have time to find it because of the overpopulation of bullheads.

Once the water warms theres not a whole lot you can do. Bullhead will absolutely rape a pond late spring through fall if they are present. You could try using something like tiger nuts, which will still catch some cats, but nothing like corn or bread or any of the other carp standbys.

Honestly, once the catfish and turtle scourge starts around this time of year I tend to avoid ponds until around October.

Another suggestion is to ask around and see if you can find a pond with some big flathead in it. I only know of a few ponds that are bullhead free and they all have one thing in common...big flatties.

Tiger nuts are the tubers (not true nuts) from the tigernut sedge plant. They are very popular for carp both in europe and the u.s.

They can be bought from some feed stores where they are sold as chuffa turkey feed. Beware they are pricey in bulk though so I buy smaller amounts from online carp tackle dealers. Unless they are pre prepared they must be boiled for around a half hour to make them not harmful to the fish and to soften them up enough to get on a hair rig. They probably won't work too well directly on a hook as they are still pretty hard after boiling.

Maybe not something to consider unless you're interested in exploring the european carp fishing methods. If you are, check out the sticky thread at the top of this forum, theres a lot of info there to get you started.

Flavor your corn with something the catfish don't like. Try pineapple, banana, anise or vanilla

Using Artificial baits helps some, more with turtles than cats.

Or bring chad with you, all the cats will go to his lines.

I tend to over think fishing. Please help me.
When I am over complicating something please kick me in the face. Hard.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to start baiting my trotlines with corn. Seriously what ever happened to bran flakes and big red? Maybe a splash of Adams vanilla.Thats all I used as a kid. You can tell I don't target carp anymore. Have to try again with my kids.

the wheaties and big red will catch cats as well. we try to not use treble hooks as carp fight REALLY hard and could break your line if you are not used to fighting them. the treble hook can and will hurt the fish
