I need to replace my deep cycle batteries and found the Exide AGM batteries at Academy for $190 bucks each. I believe the battery was a Group 27. Has anyone used the Exide battery and if so pros and cons?

I have not had any experience with them, but sounds like a good price. I would only buy AGM batteries they hold up much better.

AGM? Hope your battery charger has a setting for fully charging AGMs different from the regular flooded wet cell charge profile setting.

If your gonna spend that much for an exide, just spring for the optima and be done with it.

It is of my own opinion that agm's are a waste of money for trolling motors. Fact is that deep discharge of a battery is bad for it. Don't care if its deep cycle or not. The agm may net you a year or so more, but at 3x the cost you're blowing you'r money. I run deka agm's in my truck and for my starting battery and they're great, just not a believer in trolling bat's.

If you do drop the $ choose a quality agm. Optima's are horrible.

You need the group 31 size. Always buy the largest group size you can fit. I like Optimas.

This^^^^, though I'm not sure Optimas are 'horrible', but for the money, you can't beat a traditional wet-cell battery of good quality, if you take care of 'em!

Or just read the ratings on the batteries. There are some batteries especially AGMs where the group 24 is literally just a few amps away from the 31's. You can save money on the initial purchase as well as fuels savings as the weight difference alone on 3-4 batterys can be as much as 40-50lbs combined. I just bought new batteries for my boat and after researching them I noticed AGMs are fairly similar in capacities across a group size. I saved over 40lbs and after fishing 2 tournaments and all accessories running all day I have had ZERO issues with the smaller AGMs and my engine is a voltage hog.

I disagree with the agm comments I have used agms for up to 7years and they do not need a special charger

AGM is the only way 2 fly. Got better things to do than to maintain my batteries. Approaching 7 years on my Optima 31.
