I should add, keep those same fish in your bathtub for a few days with tap water (changing daily) and they will taste much better when you cook them. declorinated tap water, or are they not sensitive to chlorine?

If the pond is in a residential park, city park etc. it is liable to be full of fertilizer etc from the lawns. I wouldn't eat anything out of a small pond. Well I have been eating cats out of a small city pond in fact I am cooking some now been no problems in taste. Now 10 years from now I may have a 3rd eye LOL Then I will be seeing in 3D you don't see in 3d now? weird.

I have eaten fish from large clear lakes, small muddy lakes, power plant lakes, muddy rivers like the brazos, and clear like the guadalupe, fish from a fish farm, and probably others as well. Never noticed a difference.

Was grad student in 70's at Ozark Fisheries, Learned that belly meat from cats in ponds can make whole fish taste bad. We would fillet them and soak in salt water or coke, would take care of taste. Not all ponds would give bad taste.

Soak them in Milk. Thats what the old folks use to do. Now the reason is the settle mint in the bottom of the pond. Like leaves old moss that died etc. Notice they taste like the mud smells. Now feeding the fish food keeps this from happing. If its you tank.
