I have eaten fish from large clear lakes, small muddy lakes, power plant lakes, muddy rivers like the brazos, and clear like the guadalupe, fish from a fish farm, and probably others as well. Never noticed a difference.

Was grad student in 70's at Ozark Fisheries, Learned that belly meat from cats in ponds can make whole fish taste bad. We would fillet them and soak in salt water or coke, would take care of taste. Not all ponds would give bad taste.

clear lake or river water and good food. fish taste the best.

Soak them in Milk. Thats what the old folks use to do. Now the reason is the settle mint in the bottom of the pond. Like leaves old moss that died etc. Notice they taste like the mud smells.
Now feeding the fish food keeps this from happing. If its you tank.
